Backpacking in Timpanogos Meadows

On Sept. 10th O. and Dad decided to have some time together and go camping up in the meadows on the west side of Timpanogos via Battle Creek Canyon. Here we are loading the FJ with gear, including, the Optimus Prime pillow.





O. starting the hike up the mountain and stopping all along the way looking for new discoveries.









There were many places along the way where they needed to cross the river.





Above the main Battle Creek falls they saw all kinds of fascinating water features and good resting spots.









They continued up higher where the trail starts to get grassy after about 2.5 miles.





Just as the sun sets and the surroundings start to darken they find a good camping spot and settle in for the night and exchange many bedtime stories.

After some breakfast and fun times they start their way back down.

Mt. Timpanogos Backpacking Trip

On August 13th S. and Dad decided to go for a two day backpacking trip on the east side of Timpanogos.

Here is S. starting the hike at 3pm on the Timpanooke trail:



After an hour of hiking S. comes to his first of many water crossings:

The staircase was a fun and interesting part of their hike with tall coniferous trees, cliffs, and wildflowers all in bloom.











Here is the view they had after 4 1/2 hours of hiking and almost near the top of the staircase.



Along the the way they saw a few people on horses, small furry animals (can you see it), and small forms of nature.







At 8pm and five miles of hiking they start to see the peaks of Timpanogos and good places to camp for the night.









Here is a picture of S. by the sign that points shows the way to the summit or to Emerald lake. On the way up they passed a local professional landscape photographer on his way down. It wasn't hard for them to see why he was up there. It was here in the Timpanogos basin that they decided to sleep for the night.

While hiking up higher they encountered a few animals of a more mountain kind.








S. on top of the Timpanogos saddle, he was the hero and inspiration for many people this day.

It was a good hike for the boys and they had a great time together being buddies. S. did an awesome job hiking more than 13 miles while carrying his own water, food, and clothes the whole way.
